Merry medieval servants

Description

My sister and I at an small museum during a town festival.

We are wearing simple dresses as could have been worn by maid servants or peasant women in the 13th century and even a bit earlier or later.

We both are wearing unbleached long-sleeved linen shirts. They are just long enough to reach over our calves. That way the hem is not dragging through the dirt on the floor and the fabric stays in a better condition.

Over the shirts we are wearing simple undyed woolen dresses, very much the same colour. We both tugged our skirts into our belts, because it was very warm that day.
The dresses are long-sleeved, too, but the sleeves are wide enough to roll them up.
As you can see, there are no ornaments and the dresses are made for working women's every day use.

To protect the fabric of the dress we are wearing pieces of linen cloth as aprons. They are just tugged into the belts, too.
Mine is showing nice large stains of grime, grease and what else... It is used frequently and some of the stains won't vanish anymore.

My sister is wearing my shoes, because she isn't used to going barefooted. She also wears linen stockings, which are usually no clothes for peasants or maidservants of "our" status. But it was too hot for woolen stockings and she also didn't want to wear the shoes without anything on her feet.

Another thing that is typical for medieval women, especially the working ones, are the headscarves.
They protect the hair from becoming too dirty all too soon. Also they protect the wearer from burning the usually long braids / hair, when cooking and tending the fire.
But in one way or the other all medieval women in a certain age would cover their heads with a headscarf or veil.
I often see women, who are reenacting medieval life and are going without anything upon their heads, but being obviously too old for being children or young girls.

PS: All clothes described above, except the shoes, are handsewn by me. The used fabrics are wool, unbleached linen and linen thread.
